DP Flowmeter Market Booming, Projected to hit $1 billion in 2007

Flow Research Inc., discovers the world market for differential pressure (DP) flowmeters is larger than expected according to the new study, The World Market for Differential Pressure (DP) Flowmeters and Primary Element. In 2006, the DP flowmeter market totaled $996 million and is projected to exceed $1 billion in 2007.

In previous studies the market has been undervalued because only the DP transmitters were considered toward value of the DP flowmeter market. Now, Flow Research Inc., has included both the DP transmitters and the primary elements in the total market size. While making flow measurement DP flowmeters use both DP transmitters and a primary element. The primary element places a restriction in the flow stream and the DP flow transmitter measures the difference between the upstream and downstream pressures.

Examples of primary elements are orifice plates, venture tubes, pitot tubes and flow meters. Many customers buy their primary elements and DP flow transmitters from different suppliers.

According to Dr. Jesse Yoder, president of Flow Research, the future looks bright for DP flowmeters.  “DP flowmeters have the largest installed base of any flowmeter type.  Both DP flow transmitter and primary element manufacturers are making product improvements and new product introductions.  As a result, customers can enhance their technology without switching to a different flowmeter type.  We see solid growth ahead for this market.”

DP flowmeters are primarily used in oil, gas and refining industries. Therefore, the upswing in market results from the increase of prices of crude oil and the search for new energy sources.

It is estimated by 2011, worldwide DP flowmeter market revenue will increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5 percent, reaching $1.4 billion.
