ASHRAE and CIBSE Offer Reciprocal Membership Agreement

An agreement between ASHRAE and Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) to make it easier for members to join their respective groups has emerged to broaden the knowledge of engineers and engineering organizations.

Under the new agreement, ASHRAE members who hold professional engineering designations can join CIBSE without undergoing the normal qualifications  review. As well as CIBSE members do not have to undergo ASHRAE’;s admissions and advancement review.

“Making easier for ASHRAE and CIBSE members to join our respective organizations furthers the exchange of ideas,” Terry Townsend, ASHRAE president, said. “When our members join other groups, particularly outside North America, they are exposed to new technologies since HVAC&R technology differs due to geographic, environmental, cultural and economic requirements. This exposure makes for more well-rounded engineers and more well-rounded engineering organizations.”

John Armstrong, the new president of CIBSE, stated “this is another step in strengthening the links between our two organizations and an opportunity for our respective members to access wider knowledge, information and guidance, which is now essential if we are to design, construct and operate more sustainable buildings in the future.”

ASHRAE members who are interested in joining CIBSE can contact membership@ashrae.org.
