Consistent growth and varied international supply channels will be key characteristics of the worldwide adhesives market, says a new report from Global Industry Analysts (GIA).

Overseas markets, particularly Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, and Latin America hold great potential for growth. The report predicts that the global market for adhesives will reach $30.5 billion, while worldwide sealant sales volume is expected to reach 2.3 billion pounds by 2010.

Regional trading areas (RTAS) such as NAFTA and SAFTA, and the proactive role of WTO in facilitating global trade, have enhanced the reach of adhesives and sealants marketers across all geographies, say GIA experts.

The adhesives and sealants market in the United States has lost some ground to China, but producers in the U.S. continue to play a dominant role in the adhesives market.  U.S. producers accounted for sales of more than 7.8 billion pounds in 2007. The value of these sales exceeded $7.5 billion for all of 2007.

Europe, meanwhile, accounted for an estimated 30% share of the worldwide sealants market, in terms of sales volume, for 2007.

The Asia-Pacific area is the fastest growing region for sealants, in terms of value of sales.  The adhesives market in the area is expected to expand at a compounded annual growth rate of over 4%, during the period 2001-2010. Extensive demand in developing countries of the Asia-Pacific region, including China, India, Korea, Malaysia, and Vietnam, is driving the global adhesives and sealants market. China is leading this market expansion; the country is witnessing substantial growth of over 10% per annum, spurred by rising investment in infrastructure development and construction projects in the heartland.
