On the heels of The Raymond Corporation announcing hydrogen fuel cell research applications in their electric forklifts, Nuvera Fuel Cells announces they’ll provide a PowerTap PTH-12 hydrogen indoor refueling system to Raymond’s Greene, N.Y. manufacturing plant.
The PTH-12 allows for indoor fast-fill refueling, a step forward from traditional outdoor techniques.
Demonstrating the safety of a hydrogen fueled forklift environment and studying the performance of these forklifts are two goals of The Raymond Corporation. This year Raymond’s Greene, N.Y. manufacturing facility will become a “living lab” for an active hydrogen fuel cell fleet of Raymond electric forklifts.
Charlie Myers, Global Market Leader for PowerTap at Nuvera stated, “The deployment of PowerTap PTH-12 with indoor dispensing represents a major step forward in the commercialization of hydrogen products for the material handling industry.”
With a consistent fill pressure, the average fill time for an industrial forklift will be under five minutes, with the PTH-12. A dramatic improvement from the several hours a battery recharge cycle takes. Higher productivity is imminent, employees will no longer waste time waiting for batteries to charge.
“The Raymond Corporation is committed to researching the application of hydrogen as an alternate method for storing energy on its forklift equipment,” says Michael Field, Raymond Vice President, Research and Development. The hydrogen fuel cell technology will replace the traditional lead-acid batteries. With its only byproducts being water and heat, hydrogen fuels cells are environmentally clean and the vehicle experiences no performance gaps until the fuel runs out.
